MIPT won a silver medal at ACM ICPC 2017!
This year the most prestigious programming competition hosted 133 teams from all regions of the world, and the contest itself took place for the 41st time. ACM ICPC Finals took place in the small town of Rapid City in South Dakota, USA. The event was hosted at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Just like last year, this year MIPT was represented by team Jinotega composed of Ivan Smirnov, Artsem Zhuk, Konstantin Semenov, coach Mikhail Tikhomirov and head Alexey Maleev. The team took the fifth place with a silver medal.
Aside from MIPT, there were three other Russian prize-winning universities: Ural Federal University got a bronze; SPbSU and University ITMO got a gold (the latter becoming the champion for the seventh time!).
The top 5 of the world was made up of 5 universities that solved 10 problems of the contest, and Jinotega was one of them. It is important to note that the team demonstrated a colossal will for victory and determination: after all, the last three problems were solved within the very last hour before unfreezing! Congratulations!

"We can see that the Finalists trained a lot. Out of all teams that went to the Finals, 29 teams were coached at Moscow Workshops ACM ICPC. The Finals' problems were hard and interesting. It is no wonder that the best results were shown by leading competitive programming schools: Polish, Chinese, Korean and Russian," said Alexei Maleev, head of the team and Laboratory for IT-Education Development, noting the high level of each team that passed into the Finals.
